Where a bathroom is constructed of standard brickwork, its walls rendered in sand and lime, and Moroccan Tadelakt applied, the walls can then be cured with olive oil and soap. Here, during the phase of curing the olive oil and soap soak deep into the Tadelakt and render behind, leaving a penetrating layer to repel water from the shower or bath.
In the craft Tadelakt is known as "hard as marble - soft as silk", and theres no better way to describe the sole which Tadelakt carries within. Its a most alive plastering form, requiring the oil and soap, breathing daily with comings and goings, and enhancing the bathroom with satin lustres and dappled colours.
